Working From Home – A Clients Perspective Sean ArundelJanuary 12, 2024 Article As employers, we’ve witnessed firsthand the challenges and opportunities presented by this seismic shift in the way we conduct business. From navigating technological hurdles to fostering a sense of connection among remote teams, the experiences of working from home staff have profoundly shaped our approach to leadership. One of the most significant lessons we’ve learned is the importance of embracing flexibility. Prior to the widespread adoption of remote work, many employers were hesitant to deviate from the traditional 9-to-5 office schedule. However, the events of the past few years have demonstrated that productivity is not bound by physical location or time constraints. By offering flexible work arrangements, we empower our employees to manage their time in a manner that suits their individual needs and preferences, ultimately leading to greater job satisfaction and retention. We have also found that by hiring remote staff, we don’t restrict the talent pool we are recruiting from. We receive at least x10 the volume of applications now, and more importantly, these applications come from hugely talented individuals that we would have otherwise ignored due to geographic restrictions. Remote work has certainly challenged us to rethink our approach to communication and collaboration. We’ve had to leverage technology to bridge the gap and foster a sense of connection among remote teams. Whether through video conferencing platforms, instant messaging tools, or project management software, effective communication has become more important than ever in ensuring that our employees feel supported. We have also arranged additional training and development opportunities, access to technical support, and regular check-ins with managers to bridge the communication gap with employees who work from home. In summary I can safely say that we are enjoying this revolution! We are attracting a more diverse workforce, with a wider skill and capability set than we did when restricting ourselves to our local population only. We have also saved a good amount of dollars in smaller offices, lower expense claims, and lower utility bills. We hope this new way or working is here to stay.
